Connacht star Robbie Henshaw has thanked Brian O'Driscoll for his continued support at the start of his international career and revealed he is often speaking to the Irish legend on how to improve.

Henshaw donned the iconic 13 jersey for yesterday's memorable three-point victory over Australia as Ireland completed a brilliant 2014 with the 21 year-old being tipped to become BOD's long-term successor at outside centre.

Winning just his fourth cap at the Aviva Stadium, he put in a huge defensive performance in a game that ebbed and flowed, with his huge clearance down field finally ending Wallaby resistance.

After the match Henshaw revealed that he is in constant communication with O'Driscoll who has taken to reviewing matches in order to help the young star improve further.

"Myself and Brian we stay in contact with text and a couple of phone calls here and there," he said in his post-match interview.

"He gives me things to work on. He studies my games and he is really helping me at the moment."

O'Driscoll has not appeared at training camps but the advice has been invaluable according to the versatile back

"He has been studying the matches and reviewing them himself and given me things to work on and telling me things I have done well"

"I made sure to say it to him 'don't leave me now and give me a dig-out when you go and help me improve,'" he joked.

"I have a lot of respect for Brian."
