Heineken Cup - Pool 5 wrap

Talking point

Leicester Tigers' last-gasp win in Montpellier kept their cup hopes alive in the most dramatic fashion. Niki Goneva crossed for the try and replacement fly-half Ryan Lamb showed remarkable composure in kicking the conversion to seal the narrowest of victories for his side.

Leicester still trail leaders Ulster by three points as the Northerners picked up maximum points against Treviso for the second consecutive week. Ulster host Montpellier in the next round, but the challenge will be less daunting given that the French side cannot now qualify for the quarter-finals.

Payne catches eye

Last week Jared Payne spoke publicly about his desire to replace Brian O'Driscoll for Ireland when the great centre hangs up his boots. Payne's try three minutes from time sealed Ulster's bonus-point win, and his overall display will not have gone unnoticed by Joe Schmidt.

If Payne is to fill the void left by O'Driscoll, he may need some more regular outings for Ulster at No 13 rather than at full-back.

Numbers game

313Ulster's expansive game plan was again in full flow as they made an impressive 313 metres.
