Connacht run stutters to halt

Ospreys 33
Connacht 18

An early Jonny O'Connor try couldn't help Connacht as their winning streak came to a crushing end.

Eric Elwood's men had recorded four successive victories going into this clash but they were put to the sword by the clinical Magners League champions.

O'Connor helped his side to the perfect start with his early touchdown.

But the Ospreys responded with tries of their own through Richard Fussell, Tom Prydie and Sonny Parker.

Mike Swift gave Connacht a glimmer of hope in the latter stages but the Ospreys put the game beyond doubt with Mefin Davies' bonus-point try.

Elwood was left bitterly disappointed by the loss which leaves his side 10th in the table and will now have to pick his side up ahead of the clash with Treviso.

Connacht made a bright start at the Liberty Stadium and Ian Keatley slotted a long-range penalty to give them an early lead.

But the home side drew themselves level when Dan Biggar slotted a drop-goal after 19 minutes.

After trailing 16-8 at the break, Connacht were dealt a major blow within minutes of the re-start with Prydie racing clear to score.

After that, it was plain sailing for the Ospreys before Swift drove over from close range on 73 minutes.
