Connacht hooker Tom McCartney believes it is up to himself and other senior players to lead from the front in their three remaining games as they bid to nail down a top-six finish for the first time in the Pro12.

The 29-year-old former Blues star has played 16 times since arriving from the Super Rugby franchise and is relishing the end-of-season run-in, with leaders Glasgow coming to the Sportsground tomorrow.

"Every time you're out against the number one team in the competition, they've set the benchmark so we've got to lead by example and there's no better team to do it against than the team that's on top.

"We talked about it after the Munster game. Me and a couple of the other senior guys felt that to beat Munster we really had to lead from the front and we probably didn't all play as well as we could've that day.

"So I think from myself, Aly Muldowney and John Muldoon, we've got to go out there and we've got to have really good games and lead the guys around.

"Not doing anything over the top and special but just being really solid, leading by example. If we can do that then hopefully the younger guys will come through and they'll just do their role and feed off that," he said.
