Meet Connacht’s latest recruit – Home and Away star Steve Peacock

Published 08/07/2014 | 14:13

Connacht have dipped into the Southern Hemisphere of late to bolster their playing squad, but eyebrows were raised when an Aussie TV star pitched up at the Sportsground.

Steve Peacock, better known to most Irish viewers as Brax from Home and Away, is in Ireland a whistle-stop nightclub tour and took some time out to visit the Sportsground while in Galway.

A huge rugby fan and former flanker with amateur clubs in Australia, Steve said the visit was ‘the highlight of my trip’.

Peacock was brought on a tour of the ground, met with all the players and coaches and even had the chance to throw the ball around under the watchful eyes of both players and management.

“I’ll be following the progress of the team for sure and I’d love to get back for a game in the New Year”, said the 32-year-old from New South Wales.

The players even performed the famous Home & Away theme song for the embarrassed but gracious guest of honour.
