Keatley pulls the strings for five-star Westerners
Connacht 37 Glasgow 8
Connacht put together back-to-back Magners League victories for the first time in four and a half years when they brushed aside Glasgow with an accomplished performance at the Sportsground last night.
Five tries to one told its own story as Eric Elwood's men continued the good form which has now seen them win four on the trot in all competitions. Fionn Carr also became Connacht's joint top try scorer when he equalled Conor McPhillips' 32 touchdowns.
But it was the display of another player set to depart the province in the summer that decided this clash, as Ian Keatley produced a superb display at out-half. Brian Tuohy crossed for two tries as Connacht bagged a try bonus point for the first time since the opening day of the campaign.
The Westerners led 18-8 at the end of the first-half but could have been out of sight by that stage. Tuohy got his first after nine minutes when Glasgow hooker Fergus Thomson was penalised for delaying a lineout throw and Connacht quickly worked the ball wide.
Glasgow hit back for Bernardo Stortoni to cut through the defence and set up Hefin O'Hare for his second try of the campaign in the right corner after 12 minutes but Keatley shredded the Glasgow defence with a grubber kick for full-back Gavin Duffy to race through and score, with the conversion making it 15-5 after 17 minutes.
Connacht wrapped up the issue after the restart. Keatley was again the architect when he broke from deep to set up Carr down the left for a great score. Keatley added the points as Connacht turned on the style, again breaking from deep with Tuohy getting his second try of the night after 46 minutes.
The dominant Connacht pack got their reward after 61 minutes with a penalty try when Glasgow were penalised in the scrum, with Keatley adding his third conversion on a night when he turned on the style.
