Leinster utility Joey Carbery has been named the Pro 12 Young Player of the Season by a 30-strong media panel from across Italy, Ireland, Scotland and Wales at the Guinness PRO12 Awards in Dublin on Sunday evening.

Carbery was Leinster's top try scorer in the Pro 12 this season with eight tries in 16 games for the second placed Blues.

After notching a brace of tries against Treviso in his first start of the season in September, Carbery went on to score six tries in his next 10 Pro 12 starts, with his strong form for Leinster prompting an Ireland call up, which ultimately led to his international debut against his native New Zealand in November.

Elsewhere Carbery's Leinster teammates Jack Conan and Dan Leavy were both named to the Guinness PRO12 Dream Team, while Ulster winger Charles Piutau was voted the Guinness PRO12 Players’ Player of the Season.

Munster were the big winners on the night with six players named to the Guinness PRO12 Dream Team while Director of Rugby, Rassie Erasmus, was named as Coach of the Season after returning the province to the semi-finals of the championship.

2015/16 PRO12 champions, Connacht, won the Specsavers Fair Play Award, which was accepted by captain John Muldoon, who made his 300th appearance for the province earlier this season. Connacht will receive €11,795 to put towards their youth development programme.

Outgoing Ulster scrum-half Ruan Pienaar’s try for Ulster against the Glasgow Warriors in Round 15 was voted by readers of Independent.ie as the Try of the Season, with the Springbok scrum-half starting and finishing a magnificent team effort:
