Paul O'Connell's rugby career is over.

The legendary Munster and Ireland lock has been forced into retirement due to the hamstring injury he suffered in the victory over France at last year's Rugby World Cup that brought his international career to a premature end.

He retires with two European Cups (2006, 2008), three League titles (2003, 2009, 2011) and a Celtic Cup in 2005 from his Munster career.

He played a pivotal role in Ireland's 2009 Grand Slam success,  four Triple Crowns (2004, 2006, 2007, 2009) and back-to-back Six Nations Championship (2014 and 2015).
