Fixture-makers ruining club game
scheduling All-Ireland League games to kick off at the same time as Heineken Cup fixtures is bad enough, but in recent weeks the powers that be have gone one better by fixing the AIL to go head-to-head with the Six Nations.
In many cases, the clubs hardly help themselves by failing to at least experiment with playing on an alternative day -- be it Friday night or Sunday afternoon -- or at least on an alternative time on Saturday. The message from the clubs and governing body is all wrong.
I know of many who, while still interested enough to support the club game, will not swap the comfort of the couch on a Heineken Cup or Six Nations afternoon for a trek down to their local club. Can you blame them?
If the IRFU is serious about regenerating interest in the premier club competition, they're going about it the wrong way.
