Lock Cian Duffy and No 8 Ed Brennan shared out Blackrock's four tries as they moved through to the quarter-final at Donnybrook yesterday.
This could have been a lot worse were it not for Patrick McDermott's penalty to bring it back to 8-3 in the 13th minute after Duffy's try had put Blackrock in front.
St Mary's were going well at that point, despite Brennan's try from the base of a five-metre scrum to make it 15-3 at the break. Mary's lock Michael Connell even had the temerity to pull off an intercept, only to come up a metre short.
With that close shave went any trace of a shock as the power of 'Rock began to churn out the yards, and that was the basis for two more tries from Brennan in the 50th minute and Duffy in the 53rd.
