FIVE penalties from Scott Deasy helped Munster beat a spirited Nottingham at Meadow Lane last night.
Trailing 8-3 at half-time, Deasy kicked four penalties in the second half as Munster went top of Pool B.
In the ninth minute Munster gave away a penalty and James Arlidge slotted it between the posts.
In the 22nd minute, visiting flanker Tommy O'Donnell was sin-binned for a deliberate knock-on in the centre of the pitch.
Three minutes later, though, Nottingham gave away a penalty, which Deasy dispatched to level.
Continuous Nottingham pressure forced another penalty, resulting in handbags and two more yellow cards, this time for Nottingham's Sione Kalamafoni and Munster's skipper Billy Holland.
David Jackson got a try to give Nottingham an 8-3 half-time lead.
In the second half Deasy landed three penalties to Arlidge's two, before the Munster out-half kicked the crucial score in the 72nd minute.
