Left-wing Joe Darcy struck for two tries to seal the fate of King's Hospital in the Leinster Schools Senior Cup first round at the NUI Maynooth campus.
Simply passing the ball was a liability in the swirling conditions, which also made the line-out a lottery.
Newbridge did manage to mount a devastating attacking move in the 11th minute, though, with runners powering around the side of a maul to make solid ground. Lock Tom Treacy made significant headway to suck in the fringe defence.
Half-backs Robbie Mullen and Mark Sutton then tested the outside, where Darcy squeezed in at the left corner. Full-back Chris Healy made up for an earlier missed penalty with a stunning conversion from the touchline.
Newbridge held their seven-point advantage to the break, and just after the restart Darcy flew outside one defender and inside another on a remarkable solo effort from his own 40-metre line to make it 12-0.
King's Hospital struck back straight away, a clever front-of-the-line-out move culminating in Austrian second-row Tassilo Herberstein claiming a try in the right corner.
But despite the backing of a gale-force wind, King's Hospital could not find another way through their dogged opponents.
