Veteran Connacht captain John Muldoon has claimed the Hartmanns of Galway and SEIKO Watches March Player of the Month award for March.

The 33-year-old Ireland international back-row has 270 appearances for Connacht where he has scored 18 tries in 13 seasons as part of the senior set-up.

Muldoon has been a stalwart for Connacht throughout the years and this season has come into his own as a leader in Connacht's amazing run-in the Pro12 and Europe.

Although they were dumped out of the Challenge Cup by Grenoble at the quarter-final stage last weekend, Muldoon had touched down three tries in four European involvements this term.

Muldoon has aided the progression of promising back-rows Jake Heenan, Eoghan Masterson, Eoin McKeon, James Connolly and Sean O'Brien as Connacht continue to evolve into a strong youthful squad.

In March, Muldoon started at No 8 and played all 80 minutes in both of Connacht's massive Pro12 wins against Edinburgh and Leinster as they stayed top of the Pro12.

Connacht had a brilliant bonus-point 28-23 success away to Edinburgh and followed that up with another famous inter-provincial 7-6 win over Leinster.

Muldoon was leading light for Connacht as he starred alongside O'Brien, Heenan, McKeon and Connolly in the two games.

Muldoon won the award ahead of out-half AJ MacGinty and fellow back-row Eoin McKeon, who were both instrumental in Connacht's two wins during last month.
