The girls section in Oughterard RFC continues to grow every year with the numbers for this season increasing to 25, with girls from all age groups in the Minis levels.

The club were very lucky at the beginning of the year when Wendy Hickey (Connacht Development Officer) brought the Six Nations trophy to the schools in the locality.

It generated huge interested, which inspired and encouraged girls to get out and play the game.

The aim of Oughterard RFC is to provide the environment for players and coaches to reach their potential based on training sessions incorporating fun, respect, skilfulness and effort.

The coaches (Carmel, Brian and Ian), have worked hard to ensure the girls learn new skills, train hard, and most importantly, enjoy playing rugby.

FABULOUS

A fortnight ago, ORFC girls hosted their own mini blitz, where teams from our region within the province came to Oughterard to play some fabulous rugby.

Due to the horrendously wet weather in November and December, the girls haven't played as many matches as they would have liked so far this term, but they are looking forward to travelling to various blitzes around the province before the season ends.

With the Six Nations tournament just around the corner, rugby in general, and in particular the women's national teams, will be in the spotlight.

Looking to build on this, Oughterard are working hard to develop their girl's squads and will always welcome new players.

So if you know of anyone who might like to give rugby a go, give them a nudge in Oughterard direction. For more information on training times and coaching details please go to www.orfc.ie.
