Six contenders to replace Pat Lam at Connacht

After the shock of Pat Lam's departure from Connacht, the attention now turns to who will replace him. Here are Ruaidhri O'Connor's six contenders.

Bernard Jackman (5/1)

A former Connacht player, Jackman has been honing his trade at Grenoble and could be tempted to return into the Irish system. Similar in style to Lam, looks a sensible appointment.

Nigel Carolan (7/4)

Ireland U-20 coach and long-time Connacht Academy guru, Carolan is highly rated within the Irish coaching system but lacks frontline senior experience.

Dan McFarland (8/1)

Former assistant to Lam who is currently at Glasgow and knows Connacht better than most, but about to begin an exciting stint as Scotland’s forwards coach. Has applied for the job previously.

Stuart Lancaster (10/1)

Rebuilding his reputation at Leinster and is more likely to extend his stay in Dublin than move west unless the IRFU could twist his arm.

Matt O’Connor (12/1)

Missed out on the Bristol job but is interested in a return to this part of the world. Testy relationship with the IRFU may stand in the way.

Simon Easterby (80/1)

Ireland’s forwards coach has experience as a head coach with Scarlets and has been part of Joe Schmidt’s ticket since 2014.
