No local joy for Challenge Cup rivals

All three of Connacht's Challenge Cup pool rivals tasted defeats last weekend, with heavy losses experienced by Oyannax and Worcester Warriors.

Brive remain on zero points at the bottom of the Top 14 standings, but only a late try from scrum-half Vasil Lobzhanidze put some respectability on the scoreline as they lost 29-14 to Lyon.

Like he has often done - to Connacht - Lionel Beauxis kicked his side to the win and the 19 points from his boot played a big part in his side's triumph.

And it doesn't get any easier for Brive this weekend as they make the trip to the capital to take on Racing 92, who will be reeling from last weekend's loss to Agen.

Elsewhere, Oyonnax were unable to back up last week's draw with Toulouse as they suffered a 37-6 hammering at the hand of leaders Montpellier.

Former Ulster scrum-half Ruan Pienaar was the key protagonist for Montpellier with a try and 17 points for his side, while Oyonnax had to be happy with two penalties from Christopher Ruiz. This weekend they take on Racing's conquerors, Agen.

In the English Premiership, Worcester fell to a 35-8 loss away to Newcastle. An early Alex Tait try had them on the back foot, while Ben Te'o's early departure didn't help their cause either.

After this week's news of financial trouble in the club and rumours of Te'o's immediate departure, a win away to Wasps would certainly lift Warriors.
