Junior Cup action heats up

Over a month since the initial draw was made on December 14, the Junior Cup first round proper is ready to get under way this weekend.

Eight clubs found themselves in preliminary round action last weekend with Tuam, Creggs, Dunmore and NUIG all progressing to take their place in the first round. Tuam defeated debutants Claremorris 14-0 to set up a last-16 tie with Corinthians while Dunmore defeated local rivals Ballinrobe 5-3 to set up an away tie against J1A table-toppers Westport.

NUIG and Creggs picked up away wins against Corrib and OLBC respectively. NUIG will now take on Buccaneers in Dubarry Park and Creggs will also play J1A opposition in the shape of Connemara.

Other notable ties in the last 16 will see Ballina travel to face Ballyhaunis and Loughrea will host Galwegians.
