Pat Lam says it's a testament to how Connacht have performed that two of his squad were named in this season's Pro12 Dream Team.

Prop Denis Buckley and centre Robbie Henshaw were among seven Irish-based players to be picked - Ulster had three selected and Munster had two, while Leinster didn't have anyone in the final XV.

With so many Connacht players upping their standards, head coach Lam believes it's just a matter of time before the province have more representatives in national colours.

"It's not about expecting - if the guys do the business they will get recognised and if they don't they just go back at it," he said.

"But if you work hard you will get the rewards somewhere along the line.

"But there have also been some quality players that have missed out - you are competing against quality players at the next level."

Craig Gilroy, Rory Best, Franco van der Merwe, CJ Stander and Tommy O'Donnell were also selected, and being listed in that company is a real feat, according to Lam.

"The fact that they are being talked about is a great testament to what they are doing and what everyone is doing around here.

"Seven Irish players is also a good thing for Irish rugby. But two from Connacht is a great achievement," said Lam.
