Matt Brown's men beat Garryowen 17-13 at Crowley Park to complete back-to-back promotions in the Ulster Bank League.

'Wegians strolled to the title in Division 2A last season, but this term has been a huge step up for the Glenina outfit.

Nevertheless, they rose to the challenge and after slipping to second following a shock defeat to Belfast Harlequins in Round 17, they regrouped to beat the league leaders on the final day.

Elsewhere, both Corinthians and Buccaneers were defeated away to UL Bohemians and Ballymena.

But the former Galwegians and Connacht star Healy, who became president as the start of the season, cannot wait to get the Division 1A campaign up and running. "Division 1A is going to be a whole new challenge for us and it is something we will have to just prepare ourselves for as best we can," said Healy.

"We would be very keen to welcome any players who would like to play in the top flight. We'll certainly welcome them on board and see what we can do to generate as positive an environment as we can for the playing group.

"It's been wonderful couple of seasons. Not since the days of Neil Taylor captaining the club, have we come from Division 3 to Division 1. It's just remarkable."
