Galwegians RFC are on the brink of a fourth Connacht Senior League title in a row after surviving an impressive comeback from their fellow UBL Division 1B rivals Buccaneers.

With the competition entering its final week, Galwegians are in a strong position at the top of the table with three points to spare on Buccaneers RFC and Galway Corinthians RFC.

Galwegians were leading 32-13 at one stage against the men from Athlone, before a late Buccaneers rally brought them to within five points in the final few minutes. Alas, it wasn't enough to overhaul the deficit and 'Wegians held on to take the win 32-27 and now take their advantage into the final week.

In the weekend's other fixture, Galway Corinthians kept their hopes alive with a comprehensive 55-15 victory over Division 2B Sligo RFC.

Last weekend's fixtures leave both Buccaneers and Corinthians on five points, chasing Galwegians with eight, while Sligo remain at the bottom of the standings.

There are no points awarded for try bonus points, but losing bonus points for finishing within seven are still up for grabs which leaves things all to play for this weekend.
