Falcons still seeking first points

Newcastle Falcons are still looking for their first points of the season after going down 42-16 away to Northampton Saints in a game played at Stadium MK in Milton Keynes.
London Irish are the only other side in the Premiership without a point after the opening two rounds of games.
At the other end of the table, Saracens and Leicester Tigers are the only sides to win both matches. Newcastle, having been beaten 39-27 at home to Gloucester in their opening match, were always likely to face a backlash from a Saints side turned over by Worcester Warriors in their first match.
They trailed by 16-9 at the break at the weekend with Mike Delany getting three penalties in the opening half. But Saints pulled away in the second half and a try from Tom Penny was as much as Falcons had to show for their efforts. They host Exeter Chiefs on Sunday.
In France, Brive gave their season a big boost when they won away for the first time when they beat a Pau side coached by former Munster backs coach Simon Mannix. Pau’s season has not been helped by an appalling disciplinary record which has seen them pick up 13 yellow cards and two more binnings at the weekend saw Brive profit on a 18-13 scoreline.
Gaetan Germain was the key man landing six penalties as they pushed on from 3-3 at the break to move up to fifth.
