Creggs RFC have made startling progress in the recent weeks of fine weather as the club have undertaken a major development project at their ground in The Green.

The club purchased seven acres of land last year and the development is really starting to take shape as three new pitches are in the process of being laid at the ever-expanding club.

Club president Kieran Dowd is delighted that Creggs are upgrading their facilities and says a real buzz has been generated by the development.

"We're very excited about the new development because we've been looking over the fence longingly for years," Dowd says.

"This has been achieved thanks to a lot of hard work and thanks to great support from our sponsors Ward & Burke, Murray Timber, and many more.

"It wouldn't be possible without the goodwill of the local community and, of course, our members.

"We will have four full-sized pitches, all on site, when the development is completed."

The expansion comes at a time when the popularity of rugby has never been higher in minis, youths, schools, and women's rugby in the area.

As the only rugby club in Roscommon, Creggs RFC will soon have the facilities to cater for the increased demand.

Dowd continued: "We may put in some facilities for the community as well. Maybe a tennis court or a walkway around it.

"The country roads are so narrow, it's dangerous for people going for a walk.

"Lots of parents like to go for a walk when they leave the kids into play rugby. We'd like to give something back to the community in the rural area. It's important that we do something like that.

"Rugby has never been more popular in the community thanks to Connacht's great success."

The club are also very proud to call a member of Connacht's senior squad one of their own as Denis Buckley started his rugby career at Creggs.

The new development will help them develop many more players for the amateur and professional game, and a bright future is in store for everyone at Creggs.
