Last weekend saw the return of the Connacht Junior Leagues with games played across the J1A, J1B and J1C divisions.
Defending Division 1A champions Connemara started their campaign in confident mood by making light work of what looked to be a tricky opening weekend fixture on paper.
Connemara ran in six unanswered tries in a dominant display away from home at Corinthians.
Elsewhere, the games between Monivea and Galwegians and Westport and Ballina proved to be very tight encounters.
Ballina earned an impressive victory with a last-minute penalty enough for them to see off Westport 23-24, while Monivea and Galwegians played out an entertaining 15-15 draw. The final result in J1A saw Buccaneers 2nds down Ballinasloe at Dubarry Park.
There were three games played in Division 1B where home advantage proved to be crucial. Tuam continued their good start to the season with a low-scoring 13-3 win over Loughrea and Castlebar managed to bag a win over Creggs with only one score separating the sides.
NUIG defeated Ballyhaunis in Dangan although the match was much closer than the 41-13 score line suggests.
J1C also saw a mixture of close games and convincing wins. Corrib dominated a one-sided contest against Buccaneers 3rd's to run out 50-5 winners. Claremorris RFC got their league campaign off to the ideal start with a very impressive 23-18 victory over Galwegians 3rds at Crowley Park.
Claremorris who have made the jump up from J2 last season will look to build on their excellent start next weekend when they meet local rivals Dunmore.
