Five Connacht players were selected for Ireland underage sides this week as the superb work being done at grassroots level across the province continues to pay off.

Connacht sub-Academy player Sean Masterson captained the Ireland U-19s with Corey Reid an unused replacement as they were beaten by France in Bordeaux.

Corinthians' Masterson, who made his Ireland U-20 debut against France in February, also started for the U-19s against Japan last month, when exciting Marist College centre/full-back Reid scored a try off the bench.

Niall Murray started both of the Ireland U-18 Schools games. From Brideswell in Athlone, the Buccaneers second-row attends St Aloysius College, Athlone, and has previously represented the Connacht U-18s and the Ireland U-18 Clubs team.

Promising duo Hugh Lane and Cian Huxford were both selected to start for the Ireland U-18 Clubs & Schools side.

Huxford has previously represented the Ireland U-18s, along with captaining the Connacht U-18s and Calasanctius College in their Top Oil Connacht Schools Junior Development Cup win in 2015. From Oranmore, back-row Huxford is a product of the Corinthians underage system.

Lane (Galwegians and Presentation College Athenry) has also received international honours in the Ireland U-18 Clubs side.

The winger made a big impact for the Connacht U-18s in the Interprovincial Series earlier this season.
