As we reach the business end of the season youth rugby comes firmly into focus. The finals for the boys cup competitions are now in sight.
The U-15 and U-18 girls' cup finals were played on April 3 at the Sportsground where Westport and Ballinasloe contested both finals.
Ballinasloe took the honours in the U-15 final producing an excellent display to win 52-12.
Westport exacted their revenge in the U-18 final with a 36-5 success.
Ballinasloe will face Galwegians in the league semi-final today. Westport await the winners in the league final which will be played in Tuam next Friday.
Attention now switches to the boys' cup competitions, with silverware up for grabs in six age groups from U-13 up to U-18 and a half.
Buccaneers will take on Ballinasloe in the U-13 final after both teams came through tough semi-finals. Buccaneers defeated Galwegians 17-14 to reach the final while Ballinasloe downed Corinthians 10-7. This final will take place in Creggs tomorrow week at 3.30.
In the U-14 final Monivea await the winners of Ballinasloe and Creggs, who drew 9-9 last weekend.
Monivea have already played four matches to reach the decider on Sunday week, defeating NUIG, Gort, Corinthians and Sligo.
Ballinasloe will also appear in the U-15 final where they will face off against Corinthians in the Sportsground. Corinthians were convincing winners over Sligo in their semi-final, while Ballinsloe came through a tough encounter against Buccaneers.
The U-16 and U-18 and a half finals will be played as a double header in the Sportsground this weekend. Ballina and Buccaneers will contest both finals. The two clubs have been inseparable in U-16 competitions this season, with a league final still to be contested by the two sides next Friday.
Finally, the U-17 cup final will see Galway rivals Corinthians and Galwegians face off in the final in the Sportsground on the 24th of April. Both teams have recorded convincing wins on their way to reaching the final and it now promises to be a very tough battle for both teams.
