Connacht CEO Tom Sears said he has no doubt that Pat Lam is the ideal candidate to take the side on to a new level of success.

Sears said that Lam had all the attributes to make a difference at Connacht, with the former Samoan captain taking charge in June for two years.

"He understands what Connacht is all about, he understands the challenges he will face and the parameters he is working in and we are 100 per cent confident we have the right guy to lead us on the next stage of the journey.

"We are confident he will build on the fantastic work that Eric Elwood and his coaches have done," said the Connacht CEO.

Sears, who addressed 200 business people who paid almost €300-a-head at a fundraiser brunch in Twickenham yesterday morning prior to the match against Harlequins, said that Lam would be coming into a club which had made enormous strides on and off the park.

"In the space of a few years, since the Professional Game Board (PGB) came on board in Connacht, season tickets went from 300 to 3,000 last year and that has increased to 4,000 this season.

"Our commercial income has increased but, more importantly, the Connacht academy is producing some wonderful young talent, the likes of Robbie Henshaw, Kieran Marmion and Denis Buckley, all young local lads, have shown they can perform with the best in Europe and that is what we believe Pat Lam will take to the next level. It is an exciting time for Connacht rugby," added Sears.
