LEINSTER will have a familiar face in charge of their Heineken Cup semi-final against Toulouse after the ERC announced yesterday that Welshman Nigel Owens will have the whistle for the May 1 clash at Le Stadium.

Owens refereed Leinster in the quarter-final, semi-final and final of last season's competition as Michael Cheika's side claimed the European crown for the first time and the Welshman was also in charge of their pool victory over Wasps.

This season, Owens was the referee for Leinster's final pool game, the 11-11 draw with London Irish at Twickenham in January.

Englishman Dave Pearson will referee Munster's semi-final against Biarritz in San Sebastien on May 2.

He has refereed Munster four times in this competition, the home wins over Castres in 2005 and Llanelli in 2007 and the away victories in Montauban and Perpignan last season and this season respectively.

Englishman Wayne Barnes will take charge of Connacht's Challenge Cup semi-final against Toulon at the Sportsground tomorrow week.
