Briggs powers Irish ladies clear
THE Irish women's rugby team recorded a memorable Six Nations victory over their Welsh counterparts in Ashbourne last night.
The visitors led by three points following the opening exchanges and appeared in control until Niamh Briggs (right) set off on a majestic run from just inside her own half on 15 minutes.
The Welsh back line simply couldn't get close enough to her to make a tackle and she touched down to put the hosts into a 5-3 lead.
Ireland continued to push forward and scrum-half Tania Rosser forced her way over in the 58th minute.
Briggs and lock Joy Neville then added the gloss to the scoreline, with a well-taken penalty from the full-back and a powerful try from Neville in the dying minutes.
