Brave Shannon boost survival hopes

SHANNON 16 GARRYOWEN 12

Relegation-threatened Shannon edged past local rivals Garryowen at Thomond Park.

Shannon made a bright start and after an early Rob Guerin penalty crossed for the first try of the game via David O'Donovan.

Shannon's second try came through Duncan Casey, but Garryowen hit back when Neil Cronin powered over the line and the away side trailed by just six points at the break.

Shannon extended their lead through a penalty before Garryowen hit back with a Dave Sherry try. But Shannon held on for what was a crucial win that keeps their hopes of remaining in the top flight alive.
