AN update on the fitness of Luke Fitzgerald is expected in the next two days after the winger was sent for a scan on the knee injury he sustained in Ireland's thrilling 20-20 draw with Australia in Croke Park yesterday.
The Leinster, Ireland and Lions star was replaced by Keith Earls after 53 minutes with the Limerickman going on to play a key role in Ireland's fightback from a 13-20 deficit before Brian O'Driscoll's last-gasp try allowed Ronan O'Gara to seal the draw with a conversion from in front of the posts.
Ireland face Fiji and South Africa over the next two weekends and coach Declan Kidney will be anxious to have Fitzgerald available as the Irish backline continues its more attacking approach.
"Luke's gone off for a scan on his knee so we'll just have to wait," said Kidney. "Usually with these things it will be 24-48 hours before it settles down fully and we'll know more then."
