CHRIS HENRY has been ruled out of the Guinness Series after tearing his hamstring against Samoa, while Tommy Bowe did not train today after suffering a sore calf in Saturday’s game.
Leinster pair Luke Fitzgerald and Shane Jennings have been called up to train with Joe Schmidt’s squad as cover for the duo, while Keith Earls has also been ruled out of this weekend’s meeting with Australia.
Ulster winger Bowe received a kick on the leg during the second-half of the 40-9 win over Samoa and is being monitored day-to-day ahead of Saturday’s clash. Ireland manager Mick Kearney said that the coaching staff remain hopeful that he might be involved.
There was positive news on Sean O’Brien, Cian Healy, captain Paul O’Connell and Brian O’Driscoll who all came through the victory over the South Sea Islanders unscathed after their injury lay-offs.
And prop Mike Ross said that while the win over Samoa was satisfying, the squad won’t be getting too ahead of themselves ahead of a step up in class this weekend.
“It was good to get a good win over Samoa, especially as they are ranked above us in IRB rankings,” the Leinster tighthead said. “In the past year they did a job on Italy, Wales and Scot, so we expected a big game.
“To be fair they lost a few lads through injury, then had to take two off in the second half, so we won’t get ahead of ourselves.”
