Hours after the O'Donovan brothers won Ireland's first ever rowing Olympic medal, Scott Evans claimed a bit of history in his sport.
The Dundrum native became the first Irishman to win a badminton match at the Olympics when he beat highly regarded German twelfth seed Marc Zwiebler by two sets to one.
Evans lost the opener 21-7 before fighting back to win the next two by 21-17 and 21-7.
The third set was a masterclass by the Dubliner as he pulled away to record a comprehensive win.
Evans' victory means that a win over Brazilian Ygor Coelho de Oliveira tomorrow will see him into the last 16.
The enormity of the win wasn't lost on the Irishman, as he immediately whipped off his top as he passionately celebrated his historic moment.
