Moylette's Olympic dream over

Ray Moylette's dream of joining the eight other Irish boxers who have qualified for the Rio Olympics has ended in bitter disappointment.
The former European light-welterweight champion went down on a unanimous 3-0 decision to highly rated Armenian Hovhannes Bachkov in the quarter-final of the last qualifying tournament in Venezuela.
The Armenian, who was beaten in a box-off for an Olympic spot at the European qualifiers in Turkey in April, worked fluently from body to head and took all three rounds of a hard-hitting 64kg contest 10-9.
Moylette detonated some big rights, but with the action up close and personnel in the second round, Bachkov was finding the target with uppercuts.
Last night's fight brings the curtain down on the qualification process for Irish boxing.
So Ireland will be represented by Katie Taylor, Paddy Barnes, Brendan Irvine, Michael Conlan, David Oliver Joyce, Michael O'Reilly, Steven Donnelly and Joe Ward in Rio.
It is the largest Irish team since the Rome Olympics in 1960.
