Ireland's Greg Broderick and his mount MHS Going Global have failed to make it through to the third round of the individual showjumping event in Rio.

They were among the 65 partnerships that qualified for today's second round but their eight faults from the first round meant there was not margin for error.

Unfortunately, they incurred four faults at the water jump and a further time fault today and finished in a tie for 50th with only the top 45 progressing.

“You just couldn’t be disappointed with Greg or the horse because they jumped fantastically well on both days," Horse Sport Ireland Show Jumping team manager Robert Splaine told RTE.

"Just one fence less either on the first day or at the water today which caused a lot of problems, would have been enough but unfortunately it wasn’t to be."
