The three-time major winner now sits in 124th place in golf's world rankings after an impressive display over the weekend in New Jersey.

Sports illustrated released their medal predictions for Rio in their latest edition and are tipping the Dubliner to pick up bronze at the games.

Harrington is clearly in a good place, speaking after his final round yesterday he said: “So many things are better. I’m happy with my swing, getting a lot better with my putting, getting a lot better with my mental side.

“The only thing I’m not comfortable with would be my short game. Then when I look at the PGA Tour, I’m number one in bunkers and number four in strokes gained around the greens, but I don’t see it so good.

“Maybe I need to change my attitude. Everything else is good.”

The other five Irish medals will all arrive via the boxing ring.

The US media outlet believes Katie Taylor will bounce back from recent setbacks and defend her lightweight gold.

They also predict gold for current world champion Michael Conlan, silver for light-heavyweight Joe Ward and Portlaoise's Michael O'Reilly and bronze for a third successive games for Belfast light flyweight Paddy Barnes.

It would be Ireland's biggest ever medal haul at an Olympic Games, eclipsing the five medals brought home from London four years ago.
