A bomb disposal team has carried out a controlled explosion on an unattended bag found near the finish line of the men's road cycle race in Rio this afternoon.

The finishing area including the TV commentary gantry are situated alongside the famous Copacabana beach in the Brazilan city. Irish cyclists Dan Martin and Nicolas Roche are competing in the event which is ongoing.

There was also unconfirmed reports of a live bullet being found in the media centre where the equestrian three day event began today. An Irish team is competing in the event.

Temperatures has soared in the city today with one BBC journalist who was covering the beach volleyball collapsing.
