Russia's Vladimir Nikitin to get a brand new BMW from Putin for beating Michael Conlan in Rio
Russia bantamweight Vladimir Nikitin will be driving around in a BMW thanks to his exploits at the Olympic Games in Rio.
Nikitin's controversial victory over Irish world champion Michael Conlan, which led to an expletive-laden attack on the AIBA from the Belfast fighter, guaranteed him a bronze medal and now he has secured an added bonus.
Nikitin was unable to fight in the semi-finals due to the extent of the injuries he sustained against Conlan in their last eight bout.
Despite a blanket ban on all Russian competitors in athletics and weightlifting, the Russian still brought home 56 medals and came fourth on the medals table behind the USA, Great Britain and China.
Russian News Agency TASS is reporting that the medallists will receive a gift from Vladimir Putin's government of top of the range BMWs.
All 19 Olympic gold winners will get BMW X6 luxury crossovers, the 18 silver medalists will receive BMW X5s, while the 19 bronze winners, including Nikitin will take home BMW X3 off-roaders
