RTÉ didn't quiz its Olympics panellist, OCI committee member Sonia O'Sullivan, over the Rio ticketing scandal, due to contractual concerns.
A wall of silence has formed around the Olympic Council of Ireland's committee members following the arrest of the organisation's president.
Pat Hickey (71) was arrested over alleged ticket-touting offences last Wednesday. Asked about its failure to confront Mrs O'Sullivan about the touting scandal, a spokesman for RTÉ said she had been invited onto its panel as an "athletics pundit".
It said: "Sonia O'Sullivan has been contracted by RTÉ Sport solely in the role as athletics analyst on our sports coverage for many years, including the Rio Olympics, and offers invaluable insight into athletics performances. RTÉ has put a wide number of questions directly to OCI regarding recent events through official channels."
A source at the broadcaster said it had decided not to question her about the allegations as there was a desire to keep the scandal away from the accomplishments of those Irish athletes taking part in the Games.
Ms O'Sullivan has been approached by the Irish Independent for her thoughts on the scandal, but has so far declined to comment.
