Paul O'Donovan's attempt to add a world championship medal to his Olympic haul got off to a perfect start today as he eased to victory in his lightweight single sculls heat in Rotterdam.
The younger O'Donovan brother, who took silver alongside his sibling Gary in the lightweight double sculls at the Olympics, flew from Rio de Janeiro to Rotterdam to compete at the world championships.
O'Donovan romped home in his heat, qualifying for the quarter-finals after finishing five seconds ahead of runner-up Yuki Ikeda of Japan.
His next race will take place in Wednesday.
