In a dramatic twist to the Michael O'Reilly story, it has emerged that the Clonmel-born middleweight will not request the testing of his 'B' sample but has chosen instead to go straight to appeal.
Possible grounds for such an appeal range from having inadvertently consumed a contaminated substance that had been tampered with to ingesting something prohibited through "no fault or negligence" on his part.
The appeal will be heard by the Irish Sports Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel in Dublin.
O'Reilly has been segregated from the other Irish Olympians in the Olympic village following the news that he had failed a drug's test.
He received a bye in the draw on Thursday and is due to fight next Friday in the last 16 of the middleweight division.
