Michael Conlan enlists the help of US golfer Rickie Fowler to troll Rory McIlroy on Twitter
Rory McIlroy hasn't made the trip to Rio for golf's first appearance at the Olympics in 112 years and Irish boxers Michael Conlan and Paddy Barnes won't let him forget it.
Olympic bronze medallist Michael Conlan caught up with McIlroy's close pal Rickie Fowler in Rio and couldn't help slagging the world number four for his absence.
There has been no reply from McIlroy yet, who was targeted by Conlan's partner in crime Paddy Barnes last weekend.
Barnes tweeted an image of the bed his in Rio and the extensive mosquito protection provided, and mocked golf's world number four saying: "you should have came mate, they had this bed set up for you and everything!"
Irish flag-bearer Barnes and world champion Conlan are known for their hilarious antics on social media, so the Rory McIlroy ribbing may only be beginning.
Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Shane Lowry all opted out of the Olympics, insisting that the risk of contracting the Zika virus was not worth taking.
Last night, Barnes helped to lighten the mood among the Irish athletes after the team was rocked by a doping scandal.
Boxer Michael O'Reilly's alleged doping violation rocked the Irish camp in Rio.
However, you can always rely on Belfast boxer Barnes to lighten the mood.
"Irish boxing is in crisis!" screamed a tweet from Barnes after news broke of the doping allegations.
"There's no ginger nuts biscuits for tea time tonight!!!"
