The Olympic regatta ended with Medal Races in the 470 and skiff events for both men and women yesterday at Marina da Gloria.

Ireland's Ryan Seaton and Matt McGovern closed out their second Games in the 49er with tenth overall in a fast final race.

The pair had previously won two of the 12 races in the qualification series but their form slipped in Tuesday's final day of racing in that series when they placed at the back of the 20-boat fleet twice.

But, they rescued their goal of qualifying for the medal race final yesterday by winning the last race of the series, which propelled them into eighth but shy of a chance at featuring on the podium. In reality, the gold was already secured by New Zealand's four-time world champions Peter Burling and Blair Tuke.
