Katie Taylor and Paddy Barnes among four Irish boxers to get byes in Olympic draw

Following today’s draw in Rio, Katie Taylor and Paddy Barnes are two of the five Irish boxers to receive byes in their respective brackets.
Taylor, the reigning women’s lightweight champion, will meet either a Brazilian or Finnish fighter in her first bout at the Games in the quarter finals.
In the light-flyweight category, Barnes, a bronze medallist in London four years ago, will be pitted against a Spanish or Armenian opponent in the last eight
At light-heavyweight, Joe Ward also got a bye o the last 16.
Middleweight Michael O'Reilly was initially awarded a bye to the second round but has since been provisionally for allegedly failing a drug test. T
World champion Michael Conlan has been seeded into the second round of the bantamweight division, and must overcome two opponents to progress to the semi-finals, the first of which will be Japanese or Armenian on Sunday ,August 14.
Flyweight Brendan Irvine will compete on Saturday, 13 against Shakhobiddi Zoirov and, to reach the last four, he has to defeat three opponents.
David Oliver Joyce will meet Andrique Allisop in the lightweight division, while Steven Donnelly takes on Zoheir Kedache at welterweight.
