Rory McIlroy took his time but yesterday he finally responded to the Irish boxing team, who had been trying to wind up the former world number one golfer all week.
McIlroy's decision not to travel to Rio for the Olympic Games created plenty of headlines and the Irish boxing team seem determined to keep the Northern Irishman in the spotlight.
McIlroy cited concerns about the Zika virus for not travelling to take part in the Games, so earlier this week, Paddy Barnes tweeted an image of his bed in Rio and the extensive mosquito protection provided.
His tweet mocked the golfer, saying: "You should have come, mate, they had this bed set up for you and everything!"
Irish flag-bearer Barnes and world champion Michael Conlan are known for their hilarious antics on social media and the latter was next to troll McIlroy when he tweeted a selfie with golfer Rickie Fowler, taunting McIlroy for not travelling.
McIlroy's ex-girlfriend, Caroline Wozniacki, is in Rio to represent Denmark in tennis and when he bumped into her at the Olympic Village, Barnes saw the opportunity for more mischief.
He tweeted a photo of the two of them together, asking McIlroy if he thought that they made a good couple.
But if McIlroy minded, he certainly didn't show it, replying on Twitter: "Good luck lads! If your boxing is as good as your tweeting, it should be two guaranteed golds!"
