There is still a long way to go in the laser radial, but after finishing race three and four in 4th and 7th respectively this evening, Murphy moved into second place in the overall standings.

Murphy enjoyed a magnificent start on day one, winning her first race before finishing 14th in the second.

The Irish sailor famously finished fourth overall at the London Olympics, agonisingly missing out on a coveted medal.

She still has a long way to go in Brazil though, having only completed four of ten races before the medal race, which is set to take place next Monday.

However, Murphy has put herself in a great position to launch a serious bid on the podium once again.
