YMCA within reach of first RSA league title in 21 years

YMCA are two wins away from their first RSA Division One league title for 21 years, with victory against Clontarf today setting up a decider against Merrion tomorrow week.

Merrion's shock defeat to relegation-threatened Railway Union on Monday allowed Albert van der Merwe's side to leapfrog them to the top and open up a seven-point lead after their win over Terenure.

Merrion failed to defend 190 at Park Avenue and they will not find it any easier at Milverton today when they face The Hills. Terenure will have their return to Division Two confirmed today unless they beat North County at Balrothery.

Railway are still in the drop zone, 20 points behind sixth-placed North County, so they will be desperate to make it three home wins in a row against Pembroke.

They will have to do it without leading batsman Pat Collins, who has broken two toes and misses Leinster Lightning's final Newstalk Inter-Provincial Championship game next week, against the Northern Knights at Waringstown.

Leinster Lightning squad – J Mooney (capt), J Anderson, B Ackland, T Kane, B Coghlan, A Poynter, S Singh, A van der Merwe, E Richardson, F McAllister, M Sorensen, C McLoughlin.
