'A Running Fest in the Sunny South East' is the tagline for the Woodie's DIY Half-Marathon Challenge, which takes place in Waterford City on Saturday, September 3 (1.0).
This event is already attracting strong interest -- a race that will also incorporate the Athletics Ireland Half-Marathon Championship of Ireland for men and women, as well as club teams.
Road running is traditionally strong in Waterford and earlier this year over 800 local runners joined Ray D'Arcy for his lunchtime 'Run with Ray' promotion in the city.
The race, organised by the local Waterford AC, starts at the Waterford Regional Sports Centre and all finishers will receive a souvenir technical T-shirt as well as chip timing and post-race refreshments.
The course is flat and fast and race organisation is sure to be top-notch.
This is also an ideal opportunity for clubs and running groups to travel to Waterford for a weekend break. Special hotel rates will be available and online entry for the event is now open at www.athleticsireland.ie.
The Waterford event is supported by the Irish Independent.
Meanwhile, a big entry is expected for the revived Lakeland 15 Mile Road Race on Sunday, starting and finishing in Tyrrellspass in Westmeath.
The race starts at noon and will take in parts of the N6 and N52. Entries will be accepted on the day and chipped timing is on offer for all runners. Contact: www.mullingarharriers.com
Another race on this weekend is the Celbridge Ronworx 5k, which starts at 11.0 at Castletown House in Celbridge. See www.celbridgeac.com
