Starting second from the grid, the 30-year-old came in 2.850 seconds faster than Mercedes teammate Nico Roseberg, in what proved his 10th win of a banner season.

Hamilton has amassed an uncatchable 327 points, putting him beyond the reach of Roseberg, who came second and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, a third place finisher yesterday.

Hamilton was able to secure top spot in America due to an unforced error by Roseberg at Turn 15, which saw the English driver decisively edge ahead.

He has equalled Jackie Stewart’s record as the only Briton to win three drivers’ world titles, but is first to do so in consecutive seasons.

However, judging by the video below, Roseberg wasn’t ready to celebrate Hamilton’s success.
