Underage match abandoned

Bernard O'Neill

SHANNON last night declined to comment on an incident which led to their U-15 match against Bruff being abandoned yesterday.

Bruff, the home team, had just scored their second try to go 10-0 ahead when the referee called a halt 10 minutes into the second half.

It is alleged that a Bruff player was physically assaulted by a person who ran onto the pitch from the sidelines.

Bruff PRO Richard Leonard confirmed that an incident occurred, but declined to comment any further, except to add that the club is following procedure and would discuss the matter at a committee meeting tonight.

The Garda Press Office confirmed that they are investigating an alleged assault on a teenage boy at Bruff grounds in Kilballyowen, Co Limerick.
