Unbeaten tally top dog
The final of the €25,000 Irish Oaks takes place at Shelbourne on Saturday, with Milldean Tally in the privileged position of reaching the decider unbeaten.
John O'Flynn's charge produced a typically gutsy performance in winning the first semi-final after looking in trouble at the first bend.
However, she took the opening when it appeared and was a three-lengths second behind Solo Star down the back.
She is a very strong racer and hit the front by the third bend before running out a three-length winner from Millbank Lola in 28.64, with Solo Star third.
The second semi-final was a thrilling encounter as Cabra Millie and Tantallons Kay battled it out nose-to-nose all the way. They were inseparable to the bend and the lead alternated a few times before the Graham Holland-trained Cabra Millie bravely came from behind up the straight to win by three parts of a length from Tantallons Kay in 28.67, with Rockburst Delta back in third.
The supporting card featured the first round of the ECC Timber 550, and Sparta Maestro produced another superb performance as he led all the way to beat Barefoot Duke by four lengths in 29.50.
Droopys Cain was absolutely brilliant in snatching a late head margin over Danmar Benny in 29.84.
Exocet looked a real star in the making when winning in 29.72, while Confident Rankin defied Razldazl Will in 29.84.
